Derabours à Paris, circa 1760. Very fine and rare small early, ormolu centre seconds, hour and half hour striking travelling clock, specially designed to be secured on the wall of a ship cabin. Shaped, chased with foliage and rocaille decoration, a folding handle at the top and another beneath. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. GiIt brass Louis XV hands. Circular gilt brass full plate with turned pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement with plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock with large garnet end-stone. Striking on a bell, the striking train with fixed barrel and locking plate. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Dim. 28 x 18 x 10 cm. Notes The second handle beneath the clock enables to fix it on the wall of a ship cabin, in such a way it does not swing from right to left during the journey. Similar clocks are often represented on paintings or prints showing decoration of luxurious ship cabins. The presence of the centre seconds enable to think the clock now offered for sale was specially made for the cabin of a ship captain.
