Colandre & Schnee, Geneve, circa 1860. Fine and very rare gold and enamel form watch designed as a stylised hornet. Three-part, the underside with realistically chased and engraved body and legs, the thorax of striped black enamel with diamond set centre line continued over the head, with azure blue and black enamel partially separated wings, diamond and ruby set eyes and head, depressing the button at the base opening both wing covers and body. Interior with a small oval miniature case. White enamel, Roman numerals. Blued-steel hands. Hinged gold cuvette. Oval, frosted and gilt bar caliber, going-barrel, cylinder escapement, plain 3- arm brass balance, flat spring and regulator. Signed on the cuvette. In good condition. Dims. 63mm. overall, 25mm. closed. Notes The wings and thorax are hinged together through the joint in the body enabling both to open from the single push piece.
