A Hans Achtziger (German, 1918-2003) for Hutschenreuther Selb (German, founded 1857) figural white porcelain sculpture, underside with maker's mark "Hutschenreuther Selb LHS Germany Kunstabteilung", underside inscribed "H. ACHTZINGER", with additional applied stamp to underside "Hutschenreuther Kunstabteilung Selb 2183 / w". Figural porcelain sculpture depicting nude Roman goddess Diana laying with legs outstretched and crossed, with right arm lifted and pointing towards the viewer's left, with back quiver full of arrows slung over her shoulder, with her archer's bow laying by her side, with a pheasant laying lifeless behind her legs. Overall approximately 7.5" x 12.25"x 4.25". Provenance: The Estate of Richard Wright; whereby acquired by present owner. Note: Diana was the Roman goddess of the hunt, the moon and childbirth. She is commonly associated with animals (wild) and woodlands. Diana was known to have the power to talk to (and control) animals. Diana is often compared to the Greek goddess Artemis.
