Attributed to Sir Charles D'Oyly, Esq. (British, 1781-1845) View of Benares [Varanasi] Along the River Ganges, Uttar Pradesh, India Unsigned, inscribed "Sir C. Doyley" on a label from John Mathieson & Co., Edinburgh, Scotland, on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 8 5/8 x 11 in. (21.9 x 27.9 cm), framed. Condition: Lined. Lined; scattered dots and dashes of retouch in the sky with a 1/8 inch dot in u.l. and along the upper edge near the frame in of the right corner. Abrasion measuring 1/2 inch located in the sky u.l. Scattered old abrasions along the lower left side with minor old paint losses. Very mild, stable craquelure.
