South German Marquetry Inlaid and Mahogany Veneered Necessaire Box, late 19th century, the lid inlaid with battle scene of a knight on horseback and three swordsmen, within bird and scrolling vine border, three sides inlaid with scenes of hunters with stags, interior partially fitted with pigeonholes, 14 3/4 x 10 3/4 x 5 1/2 in. lid off hinges. interior of lid likely lacking a mirror plate. edge of lid with chipping and gouges, and veneer loss to left rear corner. left side of box with veneer losses. right side with shrinkage cracks. allover age wear, wood darkening, surface scratching, and some lifting of veneers.
