Attributed to Bernardo Strozzi (Italian, 1581-1644) Kopf einer Frau in mittleren Jahren Unsigned, wax seal on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 21 1/2 x 16 1/2 in. (54.6 x 41.9 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, craquelure, retouch, losses/abrasions. Provenance: Collection Eugen Platky, Leipzig, Germany, c. 1918, then by descent to the present owner. Literature: Hermann Voss, "Die Samnlung Platky in Leipzig" in Zeitschrift für bildende Kunst, October-November, 1918, p. 28. The lining is adhered with glue or resin. The retouch is scattered throughout, probably executed at several different times. Much, though not all of it, is within the craquelure. The craquelure is evident but stable. The painting would benefit from cleaning.
