French School, 20th Century Lot of Two Views of the Canal de la Giudecca, Venice Signed "Maurice B... z" l.l., inscribed "Venise" l.r., titled on labels on the reverse. Oil on panel, 10 1/4 x 13 1/2 in. (26.0 x 34.3 cm), framed. Condition: Partial split to panel, surface grime, craquelure. Both paintings have yellowed varnish and varnish inconsistencies. The view that has only water in the foreground has a 4 in. long split in the panel in the upper left, 1 in. down from the top. It also has stray marks, perhaps pencil, in the center. There is a bit of paper adhered to the surface on the lower right, and a one inch long abrasion in the lower left. The view with the edge of the canal in the foreground has small areas of craquelure in the darker spots where paint is the thickest, and a vertical crack in the paint surface center right. There are accretions, perhaps paper, upper right and lower left. There is also craquelure, minor paint loss, and retouch in the upper right corner.
