Turquoise and Diamond Drapery Brooch, Droguet, Paris, c. 1910, set with a high domed cabochon turquoise framed by old European-cut diamonds, suspended from a flexible bezel-set diamond garland, approx. total diamond wt. 10.33 cts., millegrain accents, platinum and 18kt gold mount, 3 1/4 x 2 1/8 in., maker's mark. Note: Bearing the jeweler's mark H D with a flower to the center, this "broche-draperie" was made by the Parisian atelier Droguet, who was one of Cartier's principal manufacturers of platinum jewelry set with gemstones in the first quarter of the 20th century. At Cartier, the "broche-draperie" was introduced by Charles Jacqueau around 1910, and describes brooches with garlands draped from two separate elements, joined by a pin that is invisible when worn.
