After Martin Johnson Heade (American, 1819-1904) Magnolia Unsigned. Oil on canvasboard, 9 7/8 x 16 in., framed. Inscribed on a label from Marshall House Hotel, York Harbor, Maine, "For: 'Scotts Landing-' property/of Marshall House - 1923" in ink and "June 10, 1953" in pencil on the back of the frame. N.B. This painting is based on The Magnolia Blossom by Martin Johnson Heade, 1888, oil on canvas, 15 1/8 x 24 1/8 in., now in the Putnam Foundation Collection at the Timken Museum of Art in San Diego, California. Old repair (?) through center of blossom (does not fluoresce under black light), craquelure.
