School of Godfrey Kneller (British, 1646-1723) Portrait of a Nobleman, possibly the Duke of Marlborough Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 28 3/4 x 24 in. (73.0 x 61.0 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, stable craquelure. Provenance: Butterfields, Fine European and American Paintings and Sculpture, March 21, 1990, Lot 02413. Lined, dashes of retouch primarily to the background, but with several to the figure's cheek; broad areas of retouch to the u.r. corner spanning approximately 2 x 3 inches, and to the l.r. corner spanning approximately 1 1/2 x 4 inches, minor scalloping.
