Gilt-bronze Censer, Japan, 19th/early 20th century, finely cast as a phoenix with its head turned to the back, its wings extended and elaborate tail falling gracefully to the ground, carved characters "Qinxu er shi zhou nian ji nian," indicating the censer was made during the period when Taiwan was occupied by Japan in year corresponding to 1908, ht. 15 1/8 in. One leg loose, need to be resoldered, loss to the tip of the tail
