Michel Claude Clodion (French, 1738 -1814), Bronze Figural Group of Two Dionysian Female Revelers and a Baby Satyr, Bacchanalia , the classically clad women wearing garlands of grapevine, the satyr running along beside them, on ovoid base cast with grapes, pan pipes, and a staff, with mold incised signature "Clodion" with indistinct date, with traces of gilt patina, underside of base with indistinct incised founder's mark (possibly Paupardin), ht. 14 7/8, base dia. to 6 1/4 in. raised arm of taller woman loose at join of arm to shoulder. small figure-eight-shaped casting hole at back side of skirt of lower woman (approx. 1/8"). Patina rubbed and with some verdigris throughout.
