Percy Edward Anderson (American, 1881-1934) Portrait of Mr. Alfred Hopkins, Sr. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 34 x 30 in., framed. Condition: Minor paint losses and surface grime. N.B. Percy Anderson enjoyed a successful career as an illustrator specializing in men's fashion. His works were widely published, including in Collier's and Liberty magazines. Among Anderson's clients was the Mallory Hat Company, where Mr. Hopkins, Sr., occasionally served as a hat model. The portrait at hand was probably painted in the area of Westport, Connecticut, in the early 1930s.
