Italian School, 19th Century Allegory of Charity Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 18 x 14 1/2 in. (45.8 x 36.8 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, frame abrasions, surface grime. Retouch to female figure's face, probably over two separate restorations. Dots of retouch to her breasts, to children's bodies, with more retouch to the nursing child's proper right leg and shin, continuing down into the drapery. Broad area of old retouch to u.r. quadrant, probably to fill craquelure. Small dots of retouch to sky. Old repair to l.l. quadrant in an area measuring about 3 x 2 1/2 inches, barely visible in raking light as a series of small rectangles, with retouch in that area to center of drapery and over the baby's toes.
