Commodore Barclay's Wardroom Sign, early 19th century, green painted canvas with line decoration and black trim reading Brit (h) Ship Queen Charlote. Commodore Barclay Lake Erie , lg. 11 3/4, ht. 7 in. According to notations by Keith Wilbur, this sign was removed by a U.S. sailor before the HMS Queen Charlotte sank. It is likely that she was the 16-gun sloop captured by the U.S. on October 13, 1813 following the Battle of Lake Erie. Canvas slightly bowed due to shrinkage, backside in green paint with black banding and gilt lining, gilt inscription darkened with age.
