Yomud Soumak Main Carpet, West Turkestan, second half 19th century, (small areas of wear), 13 ft. 6 in. x 7 ft. 10 in. Provenance: Tag sewn to back reads: "Jerome A. Straka, Lexington Ave. NY, NY from the Amos B. Thacher collection." Amos Bateman Thacher was an original founding member of the Hajji Baba Club of New York, formed in 1932. Many important early American rug collectors were members of this club, including Jerome A. Straka. Rug also has an identification tag from the Textile Museum, Washington, D.C.
