Kirk's Patent Marine Timepiece, New Haven, Connecticut, c. 1850, turned mahogany bezel opens to the 6 1/2 in. zinc dial with raised chapter ring and inscribed Kirk's Patent Marine Timepiece, New Haven Ct. US. , paper label below the dial reads, Patented by Charles Kirk, April 1847 U.S.A. , eight-day brass spring powered movement with Kirk's patented balance, iron back plate and a worn 3 1/2 x 1 3/4 in. printed maker's label on the reverse of the back board, max dia. 9 1/4 in. Case finish rubbed down to a mellow appearance, age consistent losses on zinc dial.
