René Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967) La Comtesse de Monte Cristo, plate 1 from AUBE À L'ANTIPODE , 1966, edition of 77 (Kaplan/Baum, 6 A). Signed "Magritte" in pencil l.r., numbered "34/77" in pencil l.l. Etching on cream wove paper with a Richard de Bas watermark, plate size 8 1/8 x 6 1/4 in. (20.5 x 15.8 cm), unmatted, unframed. Condition: Margins 2 1/2 inches or more, handling creases, old hinges to right edge. The sheet measures 15 3/8 x 11 1/4 inches and has a "1326...RICHARD BAS" watermark. All edges are deckled. There is subtle staining to both the recto and the verso. The verso has old hinges along one edge and pencil annotations.
