Violin, c. 1760, Florentine School, labeled OPUS BATTHOLOMEI, TASSINI VENETI, 1754, bearing a registration number 5408, length of back 353 mm. with case. Button repair, repaired hairline face cracks, neck graft. Possibly Carcassi family. UV scan shows slight area overcoat in upper treble side of back, otherwise original varnish and original surface. Back wood shows good specchiatura. One-piece lower rib. Repaired rib fractures at lower and upper treble bouts, rib corners and upper bass. Soundpost fracture in top not cleated or inlaid. Top wood shows good maschiatura. Clear shellac overcoat to top. Label is not original or of period.Top edge replacement at upper and lower bouts, inner treble. Stop length 192 mm. Purfling is maple inside-probably later.
