(Hoover, Herbert Clark (1874-1964)), Signed Copy, Agricola, Georgius (1494-1555), De re metallica , New York: Dover Publications, Inc. , 1950, cloth, inscribed from Hoover on the endpaper, 4to, (lacking dust jacket, lightly bumped and chipped). Note: While best known, of course, for being the 31st President of the United States, Hoover was also a noted geologist and mining expert. He graduated with a degree in geology from Stanford University in 1895 (having enrolled in 1891, Stanford's first year), and became a well-regarded mining consultant, publishing several important works on the topic. The present work was a translation of the 1556 edition completed in partnership with Hoover's wife, Lou Henry Hoover, also a recipient of a Stanford geology degree.
