Dickens, Charles (1812-1870), Autograph letter signed twice, with holograph envelope, one page, December 20th, 1869, third person letter to the School for the Indigent Blind, sending two copies of The Old Curiosity Shop printed in raised letters for the use of the blind as made by the husband of Julia Ward Howe, 7 x 4 1/2 in. , (smudging to envelope, letter excellent). Note: During his visit to America, Dickens visited the innovative institution in Massachusetts, the Perkins School for the Blind. There he saw Dr. Howe's process for creating books with an embossed alphabet and later contracted to have a quantity of books specially made for the use of the London School.
