Eskimo Bone Snow Beater, c. last quarter 19th century, with scrimshaw depictions of an elaborate range of activities including dances, hunting scenes, camp scenes, steam ships, Europeans, and a teeter-totter; one end carved in the form of a small animal head, lg. 28 in. Provenance: Purchased from the estate of Senator Joseph Clay Stiles Blackburn (1838-1918) of Kentucky. Blackburn had an association with Alaskan explorer Lt. Henry Tureman Allen.
