Jan Jacob Spohler (Dutch, 1811-1866) Skaters on a Frozen Pond Signed and dated "J. J. Spohler f 1842" l.l., inscribed "KRAUSHAAR" on the reverse. Oil on beveled panel, 18 x 24 1/2 in. (45.7 x 62.2 cm), framed. Condition: Minor abrasions beneath frame liner and to u.l. quadrant, craquelure, surface grime. A small area of paint losses and abrasions with retouch located in sky u.l., the total area measuring about 2 x 2 1/2 inches and located 2 inches down and 4 inches in from the u.l. corner. Abrasion with retouch to u.l. corner. Craquelure to sky u.r. quadrant. A broken line of retouch to cover frame abrasion at bottom center edge, about 5 inches overall. Surface grime including scattered small dots of foreign matter to sky near the horizon line, lower right side, near the birds in flight.
