Konrad Alexander Müller-Kurzwelly (German, 1855-1914) Autumn Landscape with Brook and Moss-covered Rocks Signed "Müller-Kurzwelly" l. r. Oil on canvas, 39 1/4 x 59 in. (100.0 x 150.0 cm), frame accompanies the lot. Condition: Minor retouch, scattered abrasions and paint losses, wear to tacking edges at lower corners, varnish inconsistencies, surface grime. Provenance: A Massachusetts estate. Canvas is slack on the stretcher and would benefit from re-keying. The frame for this work is disassembled. Inconsistent, heavily-applied varnish that displays long, vertical streaks primarily to the center of the canvas. Abrasions with paint losses to u.l. quadrant, with retouch in this area in a V-shape measuring 4 x 3 inches overall. Small areas of paint loss to u.r. measuring 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Scattered paint losses along the tacking edges. Scattered small dots and dashes of minor retouch, about 20 or so overall throughout the composition. Retouch to the outer edges along both sides and the bottom, likely to repair old frame abrasion. Staining to the reverse.
