Mariner's Mahogany Octant, c. 1775, 17 7/8-in., inlaid ivory scale is graduated from -5 to 95 degrees, the ivory vernier is engraved with zero at its center, ivory nameplate on crossbar, quadrant is fitted with ivory-knobbed pencil and notepad on back, main index mirror, two horizon mirrors, two peep sights and a set of three sunshades.
