Indian-carved Maple Butter Paddle with Horse Effigy Handle, reportedly the Brothertown Indian tribe, Clinton, New York, 19th century, (loss to bowl), dia. 9 1/2 in. Provenance: According to family lore the scoop was made by a member of the Brothertown Indian tribe, who lived in the Clinton, New York, area. Loss to part of one side of bowl and also a1/2 in. loss to bowl edge.
