Edwin Howland Blashfield (American, 1848-1936) Two Portraits of Gentlemen: A Bullfighter and Tea Time Both with monogram signature, inscription, and date "EHBlashfield Paris 76" l. l. and l.r., respectively, both canvas stenciled "VIEILLE/Md. DE COULEURS/RUE LAVAL 35 PARIS" and inscribed "Blashfield 75 Bd de Clichy" on the reverse, Bullfighter also signed, titled, and inscribed "E H Blashfield 849 Bdway" on the strainer. Oils on canvas, 14 x 10 3/4 in. (35.6 x 27.3 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure, surface grime; Tea with retouch. Both works with craquelure. Bullfighter with rippling to canvas at top and a very minor paint loss (1/16 in.) u.l. corner. Tea with retouch along the top of the canvas, measuring 6 inches across and 1-1/2 inches high at its extreme dimensions and located 1-1/2 inches down from the top edge, with a corresponding paper reinforcement to the reverse; and with a small paint loss l.c. (1/16 in.) beneath the feet of the figure.
