School of Michele Marieschi (Italian, 1696-1743) The Molo, Venice, from the Bacino di San Marco Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 24 x 37 1/2 in. (61.0 x 95.3 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, abrasions, craquelure, retouch, losses, surface grime. Abrasions (scratch marks) right side, center, in an overall area measuring 9 1/2 x 11 inches, and within that, paint losses, exposed original canvas, and losses extending all the way to the lining in an area measuring 2-1/4 x 2 inches. Largest paint loss is 1/4 inch. Other abrasions to the left side, center, including a few scratches of the facade of St. Mark's. Minor retouch, including an area u.l. (1-1/4 in.) located to the left of the tower, and a line (1 inch long) at the prow of the vessel in the lower center. Small area of lightly brushed retouch to right center edge. Craquelure most pronounced along the lower edge, concentrated along the lower right. Areas of thin pigment.
