James Webb (British, 1825-1895) Portmadoc, North Wales Signed and dated "James Webb/77" l. r., monogrammed, inscribed, signed, and dated "Painted for J. ToothEsq./1877/from a sketch taken Summer of 1876" on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 20 1/8 x 32 1/8 in. (51.0 x 81.5 cm), framed. Condition: Scattered abrasions, craquelure, surface grime. With a label from Frost and Reed, London, on the stretcher. Full inscription on the reverse as follows: "Portmadoc/North Wales/James Webb/Sep. 1877" to upper left; "Painted for A. Tooth, Esq/1877/from a sketch taken Summer of 1876 " to upper right; monogram "JW" within a circle lower right. With a canvas stamp from Charles Roberson to lower left.
