Germán Cueto (Mexican, 1893-1975) Self Portrait Dedicated, signed, and dated "... Stanton Forbes...Germán Cueto/ Mex. 26 Agosto de 1953" on the reverse. Oil with wooden bead on shaped canvas, 13 5/8 x 6 x 5 3/4 in. (34.6 x 15.3 x 14.6 cm), unframed. Condition: Creases, surface breaks, paint losses, craquelure, surface grime. N.B. The work is dedicated to W. Stanton Forbes (1912-1989). From 1950 to 1953 Forbes studied History of Art and Applied Arts at Mexico City College under Justino Fernandez, Lola and German Cueto, and Enrique Climent. Inscribed on the reverse in Spanish, "Para mi mas/querido amigo/ Stanton Forbes/.../este mi auto.../trato./Carinosmente..amigo German Cueto/ Mex. 26 Agosto de 1953."
