Francis West (American, 1881-1971) Coastal View with Sailing Vessels, Possibly Venice Signed "Francis West R. E.S." l.l., inscribed "Red Elephant Studios/Jamestown R.I." on the reverse. Oil on board, 30 3/16 x 36 1/8 in. (76.7 x 89.1 cm), framed. Condition: Retouch, craquelure, surface grime. N.B. Francis West, born Francis X. Polusney, was an active artist in Jamestown, Rhode Island, from the mid-1930s through the early 1960s. West painted seascapes and ship scenes at his Red Elephant Studios, hence the initials "R.E.S." following his signature.
