New England. Braddock Mead (c. 1688-1757) and Thomas Jefferys (1695-1771) A Map of the most Inhabited part of New England . [c. 1775 and ?] Large four-panel map, copper-plate engraving with some hand outlining; top and bottom are two separate sections, from two different editions, an amalgam from two different maps; the top portion visibly a different, darker tone in comparison to the bottom half, one rectangular section in the top right half, consisting mostly of Jeffrey's Ledge, coastal Maine, and the ocean, rather toned; top section is 39 1/2 x 20 1/2 in.; bottom section is 40 3/4 x 21 1/4 in. The bottom half of this map is the fifth variant, with the imprint dated 29 November 1774; published most likely in the American Atlas, 1775; edition for the top half is uncertain. It contains the Plan of the Town of Boston , in the top left corner, without scale, and the note about the Connecticut river just below, the plate itself is definitely inconsistent with the lower half, which was printed in Paris c. 1775.
