Model 1858 Commercial Hospital Steward's Frock Coat, Sash, and Belt of Charles P. Morse, c. 1861-65, blue broadcloth body with crimson trim on cuffs and collar, sleeves have green hospital steward's chevrons with embroidered caduceus, nine officer's quality eagle I buttons on front, and three on each cuff, body and collar lined with dark green silk, white twill-woven sleeve linings with sewn name tag above sleeve lining on left sleeve marked C.P. Morse , red worsted sash with tassels on ends, and leather belt with brass eagle and wreath buckle. Provenance: Sold to benefit the acquisition fund of the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College. Note: Charles P. Morse from Lynnfield, Massachusetts, enlisted as a hospital steward in the 17th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment July 22, 1861, and was discharged August 7, 1862.
