Model 1851-style Massachusetts Militia Shako, c. 1850s, dark blue broadcloth body with a leather band around the base, and another covering the crown, a sheet-brass sunburst device below an eagle, and a white metal I set in the center of a royal blue backing, two cuff size Massachusetts buttons holding on the black-painted leather chinstrap, leather visor, black leather sweatband with a tan glazed cotton lining, and a stamped-gilt maker's label (illegible) on the inside crown, ht. 11 1/2 in.
