Franklin Stanwood (Maine, 1852-1888) Stockbridge Homestead, Freeport, Maine. Signed, and dated "'80" l.r., signed "SF," titled, and dated "1880" on the back of the canvas and on brass plaque below. Oil on canvas, 18 1/4 x 30 1/4 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Three patch repairs with associated retouch, and other minor retouch. Exhibitions: Landscape In Maine 1820-1970: A Sesquicentennial Exhibition, Colby College Art Museum, a traveling exhibition, Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Carnegie Gallery University of Maine, Orono, April through August 1970; illustrated and discussed in the exhibition catalog pp. 52-3.
