Cardinals Cap Public House Sign, England, 1854, the sign with arched cornice prominently shows the cardinals cap on a cream background with a black border lettered in yellow "Cardinals Cap" with scroll embellishments and the date "1854 by Tom. Upward" with original wrought iron bracket for hanging, ht. 38 1/2, wd. 34 in. Note: The "Cardinals Cap" was in the village of Milborne St. Andrew in Dorset, England. The Cardinal for whom the tavern was named was John Morton, born in the village in 1420 and who was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1486-1500 during the reign of Henry VIII.
