Neoclassical-style Polychrome-painted Hat Box on Stand, mid-20th century, the tall rectangular box painted throughout with various classical-style figures on a green ground, the stand similarly painted with four tapered and fluted legs, ht. 29 3/4, wd. 16 1/2, dp. 11 in. Provenance: Purportedly owned by Sister Parish. An image of the hat box in situ at her 920 Fifth Avenue apartment is illustrated in Sister: The Life of Legendary American Interior Decorator Mrs. Henry Parish II, Apple Parish Bartlett & Susan Bartlett Crater, p. 70. A copy of this book accompanies the lot. Gifted by Albert Hadley of Parish-Hadley Associates to current owner.
