Bronze Karen Drum, Burma or Laos, 19th century, Heger type III form with a protruding tympanum and a concave cylindrical base, the tympanum decorated with a central twelve-point star surrounded by concentric bands and four sets of three molded stacked frogs, the base with three molded elephants and snails, two sets of handles, all impressed with sunburst, diamond, and other geometric motifs, ht. 19 3/4, dia. 26 1/4 in. Provenance: From the estate of Archibald Colin Hamilton Smith (1883-1950) to the family of the present owner.
