James Wells Champney (act. Massachusetts/New York, 1843-1903) Portrait of a Child Standing on a Sofa Holding a Bugle. Signed "J. Wells Champney '94" l.l. Pastel on paper, the child wears and brown dress with lace collar and cuffs and stands on a giltwood silk-upholstered sofa holding a bugle in his left hand, 47 1/2 x 31 1/2 in., with gold mat in a giltwood and gesso frame under glass. Condition: Minor staining, some pigment abrasion, not examined out of frame.
