Sold for:
$4,920

Attributed to Frans Francken III (Flemish, 1607-1667) Raising the Cross Signed or inscribed and dated "FrancK. f 1661" l.c. Oil on panel, 17 1/4 x 25 3/8 in. (43.9 x 64.4 cm), unframed. Condition: Panel separated into two major sections plus one small shard from l.r. edge, multiple losses and flaking, craquelure, surface grime. N.B. A loan label from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, dated 1886 and affixed to the reverse of the panel, lists the artist as "John Baptist Franck/Born 1660." This may refer to Jan-Baptist Francken (Flemish, 1599-1653). However, given the date of 1661 (or perhaps 1664) in the inscription on the work at hand, this would appear to be a misattribution.
