Art Deco "Normandie" Leather Bag Leather, metal France, c. 1935 Black leather in the shape of an ocean liner, the Normandie , the metal clasp made to resemble the ship's funnels, marked Depose L.R on clasp, the corner decorated with ship's anchor, lining wear, ht. 6 1/2, lg. 13 in. Note: First-class passengers received this bag design as a gift on the Normandie's maiden voyage. The Normandie sailed from Le Havre via Southampton to New York, and was considered a luxury liner with all the most fashionable people sailing on it.
