Manner of Giovanni Francesco Barbieri Guercino, called il Guercino (Italian, 1591-1666) Sketch of an Astronomer Inscribed "Guercino" in ink l. c. on the support sheet, with a collector's stamp (see below) on the reverse. Ink on laid paper, 6 1/2 x 10 5/8 in. (16.3 x 26.9 cm), framed. Condition: Sheet mounted to a secondary support sheet of laid paper, original sheet with small losses, creases, surface grime. Provenance: Ex-collection Edward and Mary Brandegee, Boston, c. 1904 (Lugt, 1860c), probably from the collection of Giovanni Piancastelli, Rome.
