London: John Haberkorn [and other printers], 1762, 1787, 1794, 1816. 4 vols. Folio, contemporary calf, marbled endpapers. First edition of the first accurate survey of the classical buildings of Athens, made following Stuart and Revett's visit in 1751 at the behest of the Society of Dilettanti. Illustrated with two frontispiece portraits of Stuart and Revett and 317 engraved plates of maps, plans and architectural artifacts, including some folding and double page. The work was completed in 1830 with the publication of the fifth volume (not present here). Plate number 29 in volume 2 was never published. Boards detached and rubbed; bookplate Thomas William Evans to front pastedown of each vol.
