19th century, the birds finely carved with heads slightly lowered and turned to the side, having carved and inset shell tiles throughout with a disguised removable cover in the backs containing a carved shell plaque of the Qianlong seal mark, opening to an interior compartment with lacquer finish, the birds having ivory beaks and eyes with horn at the center, raised atop ivory legs and a brown lacquered wood rock form base. Height overall 6 3/5 inches.
