Autograph letter signed ("Jeff"), 1 page, July 18th, 1846. Davis writes to his wife, Varina Howell Davis, that the army will be leaving their present post within three days and will make arrangements to return home with a heart full of love. He signs the letter to his wife "Your husband." On the verso, Davis writes to his brother, Joseph, that he will write more to him soon, and signs "Jeff." Address docket to J. E. Davis, Hurricane. Some minor soiling to page; small separation at meeting of folds.
