A manuscript receipt book, early nineteenth-century, containing numerous prescriptions, and descriptions for home remedies and recipes. A presentation inscription at the front of the journal indicates it was composed by Peter Shank of Liberty, Ohio, and presented to his son December 7, 1856. 8vo, original quarter leather over marbled boards, approximately 144 pp. Spine deteriorated; soiling and some staining to pages; hinges starting. Receipt include: Vomit or puke how to make for a grown person, Another Vomit but more Dangerous, Tobacco Plaster, Dr. Bear's Potion, Laughing Gas, Hindoo Method of Charming reptiles, Rose Lip Salve, and others. Additional clippings laid in.
