Complete with three engraved portraits. 3 pp. facsimile manuscript letter tipped in vol. 4 (p. 166). [Extract of the manuscript memoirs of Olivier Lefebvre d'Ormesson. Mss. De la Bibliotheque de Rouen.] The manuscript recounts the events of the trial of Mr. Merlin, a local reverend, against a Mr. Poncer, on charges of adultery, on Monday May 29, 1649. Light rubbing to boards; hinges starting; very light intermittent brownspotting to some vols.; otherwise fine.
