An illuminated psalter leaf. Germany, c. 1500. Twenty lines written in Latin on vellum. Ruled text written with red and dark brown ink in fine Gothic script. Initials alternately in red and blue. Large three-line illuminated initial in pink and red on gold ground extending into the margin in colors of blue, gold and red. The margin is further decorated with a songbird resting on a branch. In two-sided window matte with gilt border. 6 x 4 2/3 inches.
