Mrs. Bertha A. Holbrook was an 1892 graduate of Rockford College, and an avid collector of alphabet books throughout the 1930s and 1940s. After her death, her collection was donated to Rockford College Library. The collection features the first alphabet book Mrs. Holbrook collected, a book illustrated by Kate Greenaway with an A.L.S., as well as children's books dating back to the 18th century, and from around the world. Includes approximately 850 books. All copies signed, numbered and dated by Mrs. Holbrook. In sound condition, unless otherwise noted, and with no library markings.
