1880-1890 pastel on canvas 38 x 56 cm (15 x 22 in. ) the paperboard backing stamped PROVENANCE MacDougall's, London, December 2, 2010, lot 425 EXHIBITED XIX Exhibition of St. Petersburg Society of Artists St. Petersburg, 1911 LOT NOTES The present lot, depicting a group of frolicking putti was created by Konstantin Makovsky in 1889-1890 as part of the series of architectural decorations for Baron Sergei von Dervis's new residence in St. Petersburg. The von Dervis mansion later was used as the venue for the Russian Imperial family's Faberge Artistic Objects and Miniatures Exhibition in 1902. LITERATURE This work is illustrated in Ogonek St. Petersburg, 1911 EXPERTISE The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Vladimir Petrov.
